Christantus Uche Fuels Comfortable Crystal Palace Win at Irish Side Shelbourne.
Despite embarking on their maiden continental campaign, Oliver Glasner's side are learning at a rapid pace. Missing key figures like striker Jean-Philippe Mateta and wing-back Daniel Muñoz, the Eagles left Dublin with a commanding win that all but secures them a spot in the Europa Conference League qualifying rounds.
A further three points in their upcoming match against Finnish KuPS should be enough to secure straight entry to the knockout stages, particularly following a previous setback against Strasbourg.
Squad Members Seize the Moment
This occasion provided a chance for some of Palace's lesser-used talent to shine. Christantus Uche, making only his second beginning after joining on loan from Getafe, notched the scoring with a clinical finish. Striker Eddie Nketiah added a another, scoring for the second game in match.
A Shelbourne team that had finished their domestic season were no match even for a largely rotated Palace outfit. The Londoners were already depleted by the news that Mateta and Muñoz are out with knee problems.
Control Established from the Start
In spite of torrential rain in Dublin, Palace rapidly established dominance. A flowing move in the 11th minute, sparked by Daichi Kamada's clever pass, allowed Nketiah to set up Uche for a straightforward tap-in.
Midfielder Adam Wharton came close soon after, driving a long-range shot over the bar. Nketiah subsequently appealed for a penalty after racing into the box, but the referee dismissed the appeals.
Ex-Arsenal man did not have wait long to get his goal, tapping home from close range after Uche's effort had hit the post.
The home side were clinging on for dear life. Full-back Kameron Ledwidge was fortunate to escape a booking for two agricultural tackles on Yeremy Pino, before Chris Richards rattled the crossbar with a powerful header from a corner.

The match was effectively over eight minutes from half-time. Yeremy Pino weaved past a series of weak challenges before calmly dispatching a shot past goalkeeper Wessel Speel to extend the lead to 3-0.
After the break, coach Oliver Glasner took the chance to withdraw key players like Kamada and Wharton. Replacement Romain Esse came close to scoring with his first touch, only to see his effort blocked.
Esse was desperately unlucky later on, seeing one shot strike off each posts before being clasped on the line. Uche then blazed a sitter of a chance, indicating there is still room for development in his game.
The only concern for Palace was a late injury to Justin Devenny, who was forced off. This paved the way for 17-year-old striker Benji Casey to earn his senior debut, capping an otherwise positive night for the visiting side.
