Paris Saint-Germain Defeats Marseille in a Shootout to Secure French Season-Opening Trophy in Kuwait.

PSG players celebrating

PSG has now secured the season-opening cup on fourteen separate occasions.

Paris Saint-Germain needed a stoppage-time equaliser followed by a perfect penalty shootout to overcome their arch-rivals in the Gulf and capture a fourth straight Trophee des Champions title.

The European champions appeared to be sailing towards a comfortable win in the match featuring the French league winners and the Coupe de France holders after the French winger opened the net early on.

However, the southern French side fired two times late to seize a surprise lead. Initially, Mason Greenwood converted from the spot-kick, before Willian Pacho unfortunately directed the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a breathtaking twist of events, the Portuguese striker grabbed a crucial leveler in the final seconds to force the match into a deciding shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Lucas Chevalier then stood as the hero, saving decisive kicks from Matt O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

From the spot, Goncalo Ramos, Vitinha, Nuno Mendes, and the young talent all scored successfully for Paris Saint-Germain to complete a convincing shootout win.

Now 14-time champions Paris Saint-Germain, who faced last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Marseille after achieving a domestic double, have now lifted this competition for the twelfth time in the past thirteen years.
